Remember to bring warm clothes.

If the weather is wet or too windy we will postpone until Saturday 19th.  This will be on the www.backyardkiwi.org.nz website.

KEY COMPETENCIES

This term we will be studying the Key Competencies as a whole school unit, incorporating Mount Manaia to  represent the competencies.

GO FOR GOLD

PASSION TIME

Passion Time will commence this term, to be held on Friday afternoons as from Week 3.

Teachers will be sharing their passions and students will be able to opt into the activities they enjoy.

Some of the past Passion Time activities have included cooking, mechanics, art and  sport to name a few.

WHANGAREI HEADS SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION

This year's Exhibition will once again be held at Reyburn House, Whangarei from May 3rd to 30th.

The Exhibition is held every two years and showcases the student's art works.  This year's theme for the Exhibition is "Our Harbour" .

Parents will have the opportunity to purchase their child's work in a professionally finished way and we are hoping to take a bus into town so that every student can visit and see their work displayed.

The Incredible Years programme is a parenting programme aimed at helping parents have better relationships with their children, child's teacher; gain skills to feel more confident about their parenting and have a positive and nurturing parenting style.

The course is being held at school every Thursday morning weekly and will continue until the end of Term 2.  Parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION ACADEMY FOR YEAR 7 & 8 PUPILS

The official launch of the "Excellence Through Action"with our  Outdoor Education Academy initiative took place at the end of Term 1.

Using our unique environment, the senior students formally presented their learning to the community and visitors.  They spoke about water safety and what they had learned.  They created water safety brochures and during the term taught water safety to the other students across the school.

Students also learned about Whangarei Harbour, studying commercial and recreational fishing and marine bio diversity.  From this they published reports which were presented at the launch.

Congratualions to a great start on this initiative.

Next term the students will be learning about the history of Whangarei Heads, the mountains and bush, include safety aspects,  and flora and fauna.
